I've been absent for G+ for quite a while. Many of you know about my eye injury a bit over a year ago. 7 surgeries later I'm still struggling with learning to use my left (non-dominant) eye, and keep the right covered (as it is very sensitive to light, but provides no usable vision). I've just been referred to a pain management neurologist to see if we can knock down the constant headache.
It's weird, I can't "see" things the same with the left eye. I can search for something in a room…not see it, and my wife will say "it's right THERE!".
I think it has also affected my ability to "see" things interesting to shoot. I know. Weird.
I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!
I shot this butt while wandering around San Francisco with the awesome +Ron Clifford about 3 years ago (time sure flies!).

Hey, This is NOT my Best Side!

Love the burnished butt detail +Dave Bell hope you get some respite/improvement soon
Wow you've come back with a bang! Great to see you and hear progress and know how you work with challenge.
Love this shot and I hope you get some good news soon. Take care
Hi +Dave Bell ! We've never met, but I'm a local plusser. Thank you for pinging. Fab shot, and I am so sorry to hear of your injury and surgeries. I hope that recovery only speeds up.
Great catch. I hope your sight adjusts so you begin to 'see' the way you want, soon!
The brain changes with such trauma to sensory input. It is really helpful to have cognitive re-training with occupational therapy. Has your regular neurologist considered this?
+cobalt please Yes.. I do realize that my brain will eventually relearn how to "see" with the other eye. I actually don't have a neurologist… hadn't realized I needed one… but my surgeon says that the headache pain can't be explained solely by the eye damage…and he doesn't really know what to do about it.
I hadn't thought about OT. That might be a good route to pursue. Thx!
Your primary care doc can refer you to either a regular neurologist or an OT evaluation. Best to get an OT who specializes in cognitive therapy because it is very different than regular OT. My family finally got my son into Neuro OT instead of regular and he makes great progress now. He is having more nerve damage which means his left hand and arm is no longer sending sensory information to his brain.
I do get it. I sure hope the neurologist can help you. It's strange isn't it. You know you can see with the one eye. But sometimes you can't "see".
There are days when light really bothers my eye. I have a really cool eye patch. Lol. I fold a paper towel and hold it in place with a shoe lace. Not cool looking but it works.
I get mad at work when folks come up on my left side. They know that side is a big blur. Cause by straining at work to chip a stone. (That's when the damage was first done.)
I think about you every day and wonder how you are.
I love the butt picture.
Hang in there. That's all we can do.
Great to have you back and Great photo +Dave Bell !
Hey +Dave Bell, I hadn't heard about your eye injury, I hope your recovery is going well! Interesting about "seeing" things differently, I hadn't thought about how there might be a difference depending on which eye you're emphasizing. Anyway, how'd a bird's butt make its way into your bokeh shot? 😉
+Leo Deegan…the opportunity presented itself…
Haha +Dave Bell, "the opportunity" what a euphemism
What a great butt… I do hope your sight back in tune soon, wishing you a wonderful weekend!
+Dave Bell Splendid capture, Dave! I'm sure that your left eye will see things as well as the right one did, real soon! 🙂
Good to see you back, as someone with 1 eye that provides no real use other than to distort my vision and is more sensitive to light I completely feel for your situation. Hang in there and hopefully you can adjust and get used to it!
+Ed Benson how long have you lived with it?
+Dave Bell it was just over 10 years ago that I had the operation to stop me going completely blind in that eye, but eyesight probably started to get a lot worse about 2 years before that. Was all due to a freak medical condition that they still don't know what causes it…
Well, you certainly could see an interesting shot here, +Dave Bell! I've still got my fingers crossed for you and my prayers sent!
