We get the occasional California Gray Squirrel running around in our backyard redwood tree, but they're very skittish and it seems like every time I pull out the camera, they dash to the other side of the tree, then off down the hill.
I managed to get this guy to pose for one quick shot before he was off…

peanuts. i recommend leaving peanuts out for them.
my parents will put peanuts along the front window sill and the squirrels will just sit and eat. sometimes, when the peanuts are gone, they will peer inside as if to say, "hey! we're all out of peanuts out here!!" ^_^
this shot is beautiful. love the DOF
Well done and I know how it goes with these little critters.
I have about a hundred bad squirrel images 😉
Worth the wait! 😉
Great shot. DOF yes and also like the framing.
+Tai Mi Great idea! I'll have to try the peanuts!
+Marc Briggs Believe me, I have plenty of rear-end-running-away shots!
+Kalebra Kelby Yes, my friend, I need to work on my patience!
Thank you, +James Clifford. They are fun to watch.
WOW. Stunning shot. Always carry along some peanuts and they will pose for you. Thank you so much for sharing this fabulous shot with us.
Thanks +Skippy Sheeskin Do you use peanuts in-the-shell, or unshelled.. salted/unsalted/dry roasted… or is it pretty much "Heck, yeah, I'll take a peanut!"
