You're Useless to Me

Perhaps technically you're not broken
…but it doesn't matter. You're useless to me.
You just don't thrill me anymore, so I've moved on to newer, shinier, faster…

…but now I wonder… where will I end up when my own processing power and memory start to falter?

  1. +Lana Horowitz I absolutely agree… and that's that analogy I'm trying to make with this pic. We are quick to move on to the next 'new thing.' In reality, these motherboards could (and will) serve quite well as a Web browsing machine running Linux or XP… so they will be donated to an organization who can make use of them for low-income households.
Society also often casts aside the 'old people' even though there is so much to be learned from their experience (and they still have incredible intrinsic value that should be cherished).

  3. I've got old machines doing many things,  one is 6 year old athlon 64 acting as HTPC to watch films on, one is a file server,

It's totally true that many 'old' machines are perfectly usable (as long as they are free from the capacitors of death) even though we've retired them for newer/faster MOBOs/machines.  🙂

oh yeah,  they're all running debian, (of course)

  5. oh, and books will NEVER be replaced.  sure digital books are usefull, but nothing will ever replace a physical book.  I pull books out of my shelf that I haven't read in 10-15 years, and look where the bookmarks are,  it's like a time capsule.  (Tarot cards make great bookmarks, just saying.)
