This 38-room mansion was built in the 1920s at the edge of Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, California.
As the approaching storm was kicking up brisk winds, and snow began to fall, we took the mile-long trek down the trail from the parking area above and enjoyed our own private views of the bay and this stately old home. I doubt the weather would have allowed us to make the trip tomorrow.

Thanks for all you do to manage the +Landscape Photography theme +Margaret Tompkins!
+Kalebra Kelby have you ever taken the trail down here to Emerald Bay?
No, but it's on my list now! 🙂
The Captain Hook photos by +Annette Biggers and +Karen Hutton were taken right here at the lake shore.
Oh WOW +Dave Bell!! You shot – you scorrrrrrrred! I'm gonna have to go visit EB in the snow one of these days… i'm inspired now!
You don't even have to slide down a treacherous bank to get there, +Kalebra Kelby!! Big plus marks on this one!!
+Karen Hutton 🙂 The wind was howling at the parking area, slamming snow into our faces… but just a bit down the trail we were sheltered from the wind.. and we had the beach area all to ourselves.
Superb image , thank you for your great contribution to +HQSP Architecture

OOOOhhhh. NOW I recognize it!! love it Dave!!!
What an amazing building!
+Rebecca Prough they offer tours during the summer months… We were lucky to even be able to get down the mile-long trail on Feb 7…(it's at the 6000-ft level, and normally blocked by deep snow in winter).
+Dave Bell Wow! I wouldn't have guessed it would be so high! I have made a note of it – we are starting to plan a road trip for this summer – it would be fun to fit it in! 🙂
Beautiful!
