On a personal note, the PEC numbers were lower last week, and I suddenly realized that I had not shared (with 2nd notification), so that was the main reason for the delay, and last minute re-share.  Sorry for any confusion!

The Thunderbird

If you have some spare time at Lake Tahoe, make sure to take the tour of the very unique Thunderbird Lodge on the east shore, where George Whittell once owned 40,000 acres (which explains why most of the east shore was never developed). 
 
His lovingly restored 55-foot wooden speedboat has a history all its own (it was purchased from Whittell in 1962 by casino magnate William F. Harrah, and was used for high-roller fun on the lake by the likes of Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra and Bill Cosby).

It's now in the caring hands of the Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society, and they keep it in tip-top shape.

Laurie's life IS her photographic art… in multiple ways. As a +Google+ Photos team member and NIK specialist, photography fills her work life. And on her time off… her heart and world is filled with taking photographs of animals and nature. Laurie is definitely happiest with a camera in her hands… and you can't believe the laserlike focus that descends upon her when she has one of her beloved critters in her crosshairs! 

She shares the different aspects of her multifaceted life… and shares some of her stunning work – including the one that is hanging in the Smithsonian Institute for the next year!! She's my friend, my sister from another mother – and overall AWESOME²!

The first classes of fall quarter start on Monday where I teach here in the Napa Valley… and a walk through our 'backyard' of 1800 acres of undeveloped forest land clearly showed that summer is on her last gasps.

Strike up the Band

This #blastfromthepast is from about 1952… mom all spiffy in her formal band uniform. She ended up teaching flute lessons and playing in hundreds of orchestral and solo concerts for over 50 years.
  The building behind is one of the dormitories which looks practically unchanged even today, as our new crop of freshmen flooded the campus for pre-quarter orientation today. On the quarter system, classes start Monday.
