A Backyard Stroll

A quick snap with my Android phone…

I'm fortunate to work at a small college with nearly 1,000 acres of undeveloped land that we're free to explore. It's full of miles of trails through the oak, manzanita, and madrone trees that make for a lovely afternoon stroll.

Would You Like Some Ketchup With That?

The Napa Valley is rarely without color…just after all of the holiday lights have been stowed away, the wild mustard flowers start to appear…

There are clumps here and there right now, but the valley floor will be carpeted in a couple more weeks… keeping the vineyards beautiful as we wait for the new green grape leaves to appear.

BTW… Catsup or Ketchup? Discuss… 😉

Just returned from the #tap2013   conference

Just returned from the #tap2013   conference… 3 days jam packed with great sessions full of information for anyone wanting to up their game in leveraging the latest technology resources.

+Scott Kelby  gave a fabulous keynote address full of tips on publishing.
I can't tell you what he said (or I'd have to kill you).

One odd thing about his talk though… I left the room with an inexplicable urge to flip things….I'm still trying to figure out why…

Special Print Sale – Let's Help Jaime – PLEASE SHARE

As some of you know, our dear friend and a very talented photographer +Jaime Ibarra has been hurting in a big way … together we can put him back together!

Jaime needs an operation for an umbilical hernia El PRONTO! Like most creative artists he does not have health insurance & is too damn proud to ask for assistance. His friend +Gretchen Chappelle made a promise to him last year that she'd see to it we all chip in and get him sorted out.

After getting evaluated by the doctor, it turns out Jaime needs $5,000 for his surgery. Around Christmas time we started collecting donations from photography community for that sum. We've made a good progress, but we're not there quite yet.

Talking to me and Gretchen about what else we can do, Jaime was kind enough to offer some of his own favorite work for a special, LIMITED TIME print sale through our Photographers for Good Foundation. All proceeds from the sale will go directly to Jaime. With your help we can get Jaime raise the rest of the funds needed.

Here's the link to the page with the link to the gallery – http://goo.gl/6iwOQ

UPDATE: Any proceeds raised through the print sale will be matched by +SmugMug up to $1,000, which is how much more we need to raise to get Jaime the needed funds.

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST WITH YOUR CIRCLES TO HELP US SPREAD THE WORD

Thank you!

Alien Eyes are Sleeping

This is my submission for the #PlusOneCollection2012  … my favorite photo from 2012. This was one of those 'accidental' moments when I was shooting this cool not-quite-full-bloom flower, when the sun peeked out from behind a tree for just a few minutes, kissing it with 'magic' light just before sinking below the horizon.

The little buds make me imagine a strange multi-eyed alien that is sleeping…and soon a whole lot of eyeballs will open up, turn, and look right at me!

Check out the PlusOne2012 book project at this link… and get that submission in quick before time's up!

A Promise of Things to Come

Reshared post from +Dave Bell

A Promise of Things to Come

I've been eyeing the buds on the camelias in our front walkway for over a month…waiting for the day that they would open into their beautiful large pale pink blossoms…
…but they take their time!  Though I just noticed a few starting to crack open, it will be February before the full glory of these is revealed (and you can be sure that I will revisit them!)
