A Walk in My Back Yard

Well…ok…not quite my own back yard, but we have free run of the 1800 undeveloped acres of land behind the college where I teach, which is crisscrossed with many miles of hiking and mountain biking trails (George W Bush spent some time here while he was president, riding the trails).

I never tire of the wild mustard that we get during the winter months here in the Napa Valley.
This is just a quick SOOC with my phone next to our little post office.

A Sure Sign of Mid-Winter

————————————————
I love the Napa Valley. We're never without color. The lights of the holidays get us through December, but then the bright yellow wild mustard blankets the valley in January/February…and now comes one of my favorite times…the California Poppies have returned!…springing up in clumps all over the place.
Now if we could only get a smidge of rain around here…

My, What Lovely Papaveraceae You Have!
————————————————————-
Ok, I’d never seen that word until today either… it’s just the name of the family of flowers that the California Poppy belongs to.
I never get tired of seeing them, and they are blooming all over the Napa Valley right now.

Linda Falls (yes…she does)

—————————————–
I live and work in a small community at the north end of the Napa Valley. I've lived/worked here for over 27 years….but in all that time, I never managed to make the short hike to a local landmark, Linda Falls, which is part of the Napa Land Trust.
Locals would be aghast to find that I've been here that long without a visit, but for whatever reason, it was not until the lovely Valentines Day we had yesterday (70 degrees), that my sweet wife and I made the trek.
I'll definitely have to come back to explore how 'Linda' looks under various lighting and water flow rates!
