Most of the time in Pacific Grove (near Monterey, CA), clouds and fog obscure the sunset, but we had a wonderful evening on Wednesday, and many gathered, mesmerized, as the sun slowly made it's trek behind the horizon.

Anticipation….as I waited for the perfect moment. Although I do like the final result, the evolution of light didn't quite get to the level of 'wow' that I had hoped for.

Just goes to show you that many times we are at a great place with lots of potential, but we still are left with what the weather gives us!

After weeks of clear blue sky, we finally got some interesting clouds.   As the sun sets farther south in the winter, I’ll revisit this spot…(though the vineyards will be bare!)

A Walk in My Back Yard

Well…ok…not quite my own back yard, but we have free run of the 1800 undeveloped acres of land behind the college where I teach, which is crisscrossed with many miles of hiking and mountain biking trails (George W Bush spent some time here while he was president, riding the trails).

Linda Falls (yes…she does)

I live and work in a small community at the north end of the Napa Valley. I've lived/worked here for over 27 years….but in all that time, I never managed to make the short hike to a local landmark, Linda Falls, which is part of the Napa Land Trust. 
  Locals would be aghast to find that I've been here that long without a visit, but for whatever reason, it was not until the lovely Valentines Day we had yesterday (70 degrees), that my sweet wife and I made the trek. 
  I'll definitely have to come back to explore how 'Linda' looks under various lighting and water flow rates!

The First Mustard of the Season

The Napa Valley gets carpeted with wild mustard flowers every January…bringing color back to the valley after all the leaves have fallen. There's something fun about flowers blooming in the middle of winter!

Just a quick shot with my trusty Samsung….
