Although many things are dormant this time of year, our front-yard Camellias think that January is the perfect time to show their stuff.
I always think to myself… 'Where flowers are blooming, spring can't be that far away…'
. It's been a while since I've posted anything here. Chronic headache has kept me completely worn out. Latest diagnosis is that I'm leaking….leaking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Not confirmed yet, but on Jan 18 they did a lumbar puncture with CT scan to see if they could find a leak. As of yet, no results from my doctors.

so this past week was a nice respite before the dripping began again today.
The wild mustard has held on for quite a while this year (it starts blooming in January). California Poppies coming up next…

The Glory Hole at Lake Berryessa (or, more properly called the Morning Glory Spillway)…

The Glory Hole at Lake Berryessa (or, more properly called the Morning Glory Spillway) is located at the south end of the lake, and serves as the overflow route when the lake fills up.
It is the largest spillway of its kind in the world, measuring 72 feet across.

Unfortunately, due to continued drought conditions, water has not spilled into it since May of 2006…but it's quite a sight when it does.
I pass this way every time I go to/from the Sacramento Airport.

I love the castle courtyard in the evening. I could sit here and ponder times gone by for hours!
If you want a chance to see it  yourself, you need to visit when the sun goes down early so the lights come on before closing time.
This is at the +Castello di Amorosa in the Napa Valley

The Special Stuff is Just Surreal

Surreal, you say? Well, have you been down here?
This is where they keep the special stuff..behind a locked gate deep in the caves beneath the +Castello di Amorosa. Reserve, they call it…I imagine reserved for the King and Queen!
It is dark and eerie down here, with a hint of mystery and atmosphere  of centuries gone by, and it feels almost like you're peering into the past. 

If you ever get the opportunity to take the castle tour here in the Napa Valley, it is well worth the trip!
