Strike up the Band

————————————-
This #blastfromthepast is from about 1952… mom all spiffy in her formal band uniform. She ended up teaching flute lessons and playing in hundreds of orchestral and solo concerts for over 50 years.
The building behind is one of the dormitories which looks practically unchanged even today, as our new crop of freshmen flooded the campus for pre-quarter orientation today. On the quarter system, classes start Monday.

Cruisin' the Coastline

———————————–
This is about 1968, Mission Bay, San Diego. Dad rented a small fishing boat for a bit cruising…. I'm in the boat somewhere (about 5 yrs old), and dad's holding the camera… but I love this pic of mom and my two older brothers. Aren't those sunglasses awesome?
While out on the bay we actually came upon a dazed elderly man floating next to his upside-down fishing skiff…we pulled him in and took him to shore..

Where Every Day is "Hump Day"

—————————————————–
With the current events, this #blastfromthepast  seemed appropriate.
Yeah… that's me…on a camel…with a big honkin' pyramid behind me.
Egypt, 1983. Wow, has it really been 30 years?

Father-Daughter Stroll

——————————————
Today's #blastfromthepast  is from about 1934…my grandfather and my mom at an undisclosed beach.
Honestly, I don't know who snapped the shutter, since grandpa did all the shooting…
I wish I had known him…he was about as gadgeteerish as one could be in the '60s, but he died in 1966 when I was only 3. He would have loved the stuff we get to 'play' with today!

{Not so} Happy Birthday!

————————————————-
You'd think with the fun hats and streamers, all would be fun and games!
This is from about 1935. My mom is on the left, with her younger sister below.

Bell Family Vacation

——————————————
1968: This was the start of our very own Griswold-style cross-country vacation, from California to grandpa and grandma's place in Starkville Mississippi…with a 21-foot trailer in tow behind our brand new Pontiac station wagon.
(I'm the really-out-of-focus one… I think… 😉

+Blast From The Past from 1983

+Blast From The Past from 1983… rehearsing to sing the National Anthem at the Los Angeles Angels game. I'm there in the back…19 years old 🙂
30 years later, five of us from this pic still perform a couple of weekends a month…
If your curious, here's a fairly recent music video we filmed in Prague.

Sisters

I found another gem in the archives to share for this week's #blastfromthepast . This is about 1934. My mom (on the right, age 3) with her older sister holding new baby sister.
I'm so glad grandpa was a photo bug!

Napa Valley Mustard…still growing after all these years

I don't know exactly when this pic was taken… but likely early 1950's
Mom went to college at the same school where I've been teaching for quite a few years…here in the Napa Valley.

I wish I knew the exact spot where this was taken… but it's appropriate for the season, because the valley has once again laid out the yellow carpet in and around the barren grape vines and oak trees.
