Folsom Lake 1989

——————————-
For #blastfromthepast  I found this nice summer ski day on Folsom Lake near Sacramento. This year there is barely any water in the lake!
…and yes…that's scrawny little me in the middle!

For any James Bond fans, the red machine in the middle is a Wet Bike…one was used in The Spy Who Loved Me…it was kind of a pain to control compared to the Jetskis it preceded!

The Pages are Yellow

———————
This arrived in the mail today… but it somehow seems so retro that it belongs in +Blast From The Past
I think it will take its place next to the fireplace as crumple-up kindling to start a nice evening fire when cooler temperatures come back this fall…

Gotta Love Those Shirt Collars!

—————————————————
A #blastfromthepast  from 1982. Yes… I'm in this photo… can you spot me? I toured with a vocal group full time… we did about 200 concerts per year back then, and in the first two years I had the privilege of visiting 48 states and 15 foreign countries.
There are a handful of 30+ year members, and we still get out and perform all over the country about 20 times per year…

Does Your Park Have a Dress Code?

————————————————————–
While scanning through some of my grandpa's old photos for this week's #blastfromthepast  I found this one taken in the mid 1950s at Griffith Park (north of Los Angeles)
That's grandpa on the left (I'm not sure who was holding the camera), mom in the middle, and dad on the far right.
I wasn't even a twinkle in mom's eye at this point… but I do remember going to the Griffith Park observatory as a young boy in the late 1960s. I clearly recall being fascinated by the huge Foucault Pendulum which appears to slowly change its direction of swing while in actuality it is the earth turning underneath (that should make sense to the astrophotographers out there!)

What happened to that kid?

————————————
A #blastfromthepast  from 1982. Yep, that's me at the top, at age 19…I had just joined a vocal group and started touring the world… The group is still going strong (personnel has changed a bit over the years), but we'll be headed back to this city in late summer… do you know where it is?
You can see what we look like today in this music video we did a couple years ago in and around Prague http://youtu.be/YSlvfgwVWKE

From about 1969 I think

for this week's #blastfromthepast , these are my parents. They played oboe and flute together for over 45 years, doing duets, and sitting side by side in countless symphony orchestra rehearsals and concerts. Mom taught flute lessons on the side while raising 3 rambunctious boys…dad was (is) an engineer and professor.
We lost mom about 8 years ago, but dad continues to regularly play his oboe and english horn at a variety of events each year.. well into his 70s.

A Place to Contemplate Life

—————————————————-
For this week's #blastfromthepast   I found this cool shot of my mom at an unknown location which looks like a great place to gaze at the valley below and contemplate life.
I'm guessing this was about 1955, perhaps in Northern California.

Cruisin' the Coastline

———————————–
This is about 1968, Mission Bay, San Diego. Dad rented a small fishing boat for a bit cruising…. I'm in the boat somewhere (about 5 yrs old), and dad's holding the camera… but I love this pic of mom and my two older brothers. Aren't those sunglasses awesome?
While out on the bay we actually came upon a dazed elderly man floating next to his upside-down fishing skiff…we pulled him in and took him to shore..

Where Every Day is "Hump Day"

—————————————————–
With the current events, this #blastfromthepast  seemed appropriate.
Yeah… that's me…on a camel…with a big honkin' pyramid behind me.
Egypt, 1983. Wow, has it really been 30 years?
