The vineyards in the Napa Valley are ever-changing and always interesting. I love the mix of purple and green as these clusters begin to ripen.

For Throwback Thursday, mom and dad sometime in the '50s.
We lost mom 10 years ago to an insidious disease…we sure do miss her.

An unusually cool California summer morning made the perfect backdrop for my backyard redwood tree. It's my favorite sentinel just outside my home office window. It seems to take on a different character throughout the seasons…it's getting ready to 'shed' loads of brown fronds, something it does twice a year (which fills up my gutters!).
This shot is actually from March, but the view was identical this morning.

Although there are many rooms and hallways filled with barrels, this is the barrel room deep underground beneath the breathtaking Castello di Amorosa castle near Calistoga, CA. Just one of the many wonders to explore in this truly magical place. If you're ever in the Napa Valley, you must stop by for a visit!

Does anyone know if tripods are allowed in the Monterey Bay aquarium…and if so, whether one would be useful for anything when visiting there?
…just trying to get an idea whether it is possible to get interesting creature pictures through the glass.

Anticipation….as I waited for the perfect moment. Although I do like the final result, the evolution of light didn't quite get to the level of 'wow' that I had hoped for.
Just goes to show you that many times we are at a great place with lots of potential, but we still are left with what the weather gives us!

Calistoga Sunset
After weeks of clear blue sky, we finally got some interesting clouds. As the sun sets farther south in the winter, I’ll revisit this spot…(though the vineyards will be bare!)

My wife and I took a trip to Lake Tahoe to celebrate my 50th birthday, and we had the privilege of visiting +Karen Hutton at her lovely home next to a small lake near Truckee, CA.
Conditions were perfect as a thunderstorm brewed in the distance as the sun dipped in the west. Karen and I set up tripods side by side and captured the continual evolution of the light. The lightning was a lucky bonus.
I love seeing Karen's documenting of the ever-changing conditions on 'Hutton Pond', but I always enjoy the privilege of her company even more. Thanks for all the joy you bring to people through your lovely art, my friend!
It’s time to add your best from 2013 for possible inclusion in the PlusOne Collection book. As always, it’s to raise money for charity, and make a darn gorgeous book of some of the best G+ photos from the past year.
Perhaps my personal favorite from 2013 will appear in this year’s edition?
