No Picking Allowed!

Of course you can't pick them!  It's our state flower… the California Poppy.

I never get tired of seeing these pop up all over the Napa Valley in early March. It means that our brutal winter weather is headed out…
(ok, perhaps brutal isn't quite the right word… we hit 80 degrees in the valley today..)

A #blastfromthepast  from 1982. Yep, that's me at the top, at age 19…I had just joined a vocal group and started touring the world… The group is still going strong (personnel has changed a bit over the years), but we'll be headed back to this city in late summer… do you know where it is?

Today is DAY FIVE of REVEALS from the 2014 NEW YEAR, NEW HUNT round of the +Chrysta Rae Photography Scavenger Hunt!!!

What is the photography scavenger hunt?
Only the most fun you can have with your camera!!

I host this event every season for anyone of any level of photography to participate.
I open the game up to 500 Photographers
I give you 10 items to shoot 
I give you around 2 months to shoot and enter your photos.
Then I have them judged by amazing photographers
(this round's judges were +Alan Shapiro +Mike Shaw +Thomas Hawk +Mark Rodriguez and +Derek Kind   

I then open the albums up to the public – which is this stage.
Later today I will be posting the winners from this album.
There are 10 categories: Today is the "*CARELESS*" album, see previous posts for the "STEAM", "EMBRACE", "HUNGOVER" and "HEALTHY" albums.

This event is an amazing way to use your camera in new ways. 
It gets you seeing things in new ways.
It helps improve your photography skills, gives you a huge audience, and let's everyone celebrate each other's successes. 

The group of "scavengers" that participate create a community unlike any other on G+. Support, encouragement  friendships even some  #huntsmack  is enjoyed. 
We become a family over the course of the round. 

This is a negative-free zone – I have zero tolerance for any critiques that are uninvited. 
Please be respectful and remember that every person went out there and took the time to shoot these images 
and put thought into them and tried their best. 
As always, I am proud of every single one of you.

Better Late than Never

Here in the Napa Valley, we usually get the wild mustard blossoms carpeting the dormant vineyards in late January… This year, due to the lack of rain until February, things are coming in a bit late… 
  Now all we need is a couple of days of sunshine to get our full-scale yellow overload!

+David Biedny is and he's back to engage us in some Photoshop chops like only David can!

David Tells  me he will be  be talking about the power of channels, Curves, advanced sharpening, and the magic of blue screen matte extraction and spill removal ……..but ………if you know him,  you will know no matter what he demonstrates, it will be awesome!

David will also  briefly demonstrate one of my secret weapons ,   imaging that is NOT Photoshop.  Oh the rumours that may start!
