Sentinel in the Mist

————————————————-
For #treetuesday ,  I just love my backyard redwood  tree…. it's right outside my home-office window, and catches my gaze whenever I'm pondering the deeper things of life…

Flocked for a Fleeting Moment

——————————————–
We don't often get snow here on our little hill above the Napa Valley, but I enjoyed the short-lived flocking of the remaining dead leaves clinging to my neighbor's Japanese Maple tree yesterday eve… but all was melted away by morning.

They'll Grab You In The Night

—————————————————–
Anyone else feel like those branches are moving toward you when you walk through the forest at night?

Dead But Not Gone

—————————-
I came across this manzanita tree on a hike up Mt Saint Helena. The trees appear to be somewhat stunted due to exposure to the elements. This one is definitely dead, but continues to cling tenaciously to the rocks.

2013 is nearly dead and gone too… but there were many amazing moments. I'm sure that if this tree could talk, it would have some stories to tell of years past (Robert Louis Stevenson used to live at the base of this mountain)…
I hope to hold onto those memories of the past year while moving ahead, full of life, into 2014.

Falling in my Back Yard

————————————
There are many trees on our property, but among my favorites are the  Redwood just outside my office window, and the Sugar Maple at the end of the house (both planted by the original owner in 1965)
The maple leaves are starting to cover the lawn… and the semi-annual dropping of the Redwood fronds have already carpeted the backyard, the roof, and filled my gutters…

An Old Friend in the Back Yard

—————————————
Whoever built my home in the 1960s decided to plant a redwood tree about 10 feet from the master bedroom window… I really love having this huge sentinel out there providing shade for the house, perches for interesting birds, and a playground for the squirrels.

Backyard Drippiness

—————————————–
It's very unusual to have rain this late in the year here.
It's cold and drippy, and feels like February!
This is my backyard redwood tree, shot from my bedroom window.

Maple's Last Stand

Though they struggled to stoke the fire, the flame was extinguished by the torrential downpour…
—————————————–
A late entry for #treetuesday , but I thought I'd offer up my last of our front yard Red Maple for the year… the rain today pretty much dropped the rest of the leaves into a layer of mush on the grass.
…I'll see you again next spring, old friend…
