A Bit of Europe at Home

This is the lovely +Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga, CA, just a few days ago, where we have been having record breaking high temperatures.
Today brought rain and cold and hail…but the sun will be out again shortly, and the Napa Valley is still showing her splendor.

  Do Not Feed The Bears!

———————————–
I'm not sure which national park this is from…it's before I was a twinkle in mom & dad's eyes! Circa 1957 I think…shortly after they were married.

Emerald Bay, Tourist Style

——–
This is one of my favorite captures (besides capturing Captain Hook) from Sunday's visit to Emerald Bay. A busload of tourists snapping pics of the sunset at the parking lot above Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe.

As he walked by me back toward the bus…I held up my camera for him to see, and it took a few moments for him to realize that he was the subject.

Pondering the Next Move

I've been thoroughly enjoying the fabulous posts from +Annette Biggers & +Karen Hutton from our unforgettable day of pirate-hunting on Emerald Bay.
Coaxing Annette onto G+ and then pointing these two creative geniuses toward each other is, perhaps, my proudest G+ moment 😉

I, along with my sweet wife +Susan Bell,  can't wait until the next opportunity to get together for more shooting, chatting, laughing, and pondering life in general…thank you for being such amazing friends!

As a photography hobbyist, I've learned so much this past year…but I still have a lot of room to grow. I want to thank all of those here on G+ who have spent so much time mentoring and encouraging the many budding photographers in this fabulous community.
Special shout-outs to the seemingly tireless work of +Ron Clifford +Sandra Parlow +Tamara Pruessner & +Chrysta Rae

Cowtown Dreams in Technicolor

I frequently take weekend trips that don't allow much time for photography, so I've decided to create an album of whatever I can shoot from my hotel window.
I'll dig back and add some older ones, and continue to add new, but this was from a recent lovely weekend in the Hyatt Regency, Calgary, Alberta.
…in honor of the final album release of +Chrysta Rae's epic anniversary scavenger hunt (as close as I could get to her hometown of Edmonton 🙂
…and also for the many other Canadian friends I've made here on G+. Thank you!

This week's #macromonday  theme is 'Inspired by Poetry.'

This week's #macromonday  theme is 'Inspired by Poetry.'
This pump organ has been in my family for a very long time, and sits in my living room… Occasionally, someone will give the pedals a workout to hear the reedy tunes of yesteryear.

Vox Angelica 8 Ft
~
practice required
repeated bars and D.C. al fine
the E flat I could never
remember, stretch that little
finger, make it behave, do
tricky slurs and grace notes
~
to coax these from the organ
was like pounding on felt
and my feet
unused to pumping
supplied inappropriate pace
~
so I played Evening Chimes, folk song
over and over
rang church bells
imitated angels, impressed
my pious grandfather
and demonstrated piano prowess
